You can contact us directly for details of traders from a wide range of trades. We provide details for up to 3 traders from our directory for the jobs you need, so that you can acquire a number of quotes before deciding which trader to hire for the job.

Our TASK traders are local small businesses. They are members of our scheme because it’s important to them that older and vulnerable people are protected when inviting traders into their homes.

Frequently asked questions

How does TASK work?

TASK operates as a telephone service. Just ring our number and we will take details from you. Name address, telephone no, email address (if you have one) and the type of work you need doing. We will then supply you with the names and numbers of up to 3 traders.

All contracts are directly between you and the trader. You will then be forwarded a Customer Satisfaction form by post or email and if you go ahead and use one of our traders, we ask that you complete this form and return it to us. This is how we monitor the work of the traders.

Do the traders have lower charges for pensioners?
TASK aims to eliminate the possibility of using a rogue trader, not to obtain lower rates for our clients. However, some traders may offer a slightly reduced rate and we would advise you to always inform the trader that you got their details from TASK.
How are they vetted?
Each trader is required to supply references when they go through our application process along with a DBS check.
What if I have a complaint?
Most traders are happy to try to solve any problems, and this should always be your first step. If you have done this or if you are nervous about doing this, please speak to a member of staff at Better Lives and we will advise the next course of action.
You’ve given me 3 numbers, which one should I choose?
We recommend when you speak to us that you contact each trader for a quote and availability and make your choice based on the information you receive. We do not recommend one trader over another.
Are these traders local to me?
All TASK traders are willing to travel throughout Knowsley and surrounding areas.
I’m not an older person – can I use TASK?
TASK is for the benefit of all so if you feel you need us, just call and we will assist.
Do you have to live in Knowsley to use the service?
TASK was initially set up for Knowsley residents but in recent years we’ve expanded to include the surrounding neighbourhoods.
