Supporters Helping Older People
Our SHOP service is designed with independence in mind, for peace of mind. Our dedicated team of Supporters provide a professional, personalised service so that you can feel in control and able to manage practical day-to-day tasks in the way you want to.
Shopping
SHOP can deliver a range of daily and weekly shopping services to best suit your needs. If you find it challenging to do the shopping yourself, your Supporter is there to help.
Your Supporter can visit you at your home to collect your shopping list and payment method. They will collect the shopping you need from the store of your choice, return and drop off your shopping. They can even support you to put everything away. Your Supporter can do the shopping for you as a one off, or you can make it a regular call either weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
Cleaning
SHOP can also provide a range of cleaning services so that you feel confident to maintain a happy and healthy home. Your Supporter can visit you at your home to agree which cleaning jobs you would like them to carry out. Your Supporter will work safely and efficiently in your home, leave everything as they found it and tidy away materials when they have finished.
Your Supporter will tell you how long it will take to complete the cleaning you require so that you know what to expect. Your Supporter can do your cleaning as a regular call either weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Companions – Options – Respect – Excellence
Welcome to our CORE project! A natural extension of our successful SHOP service, providing practical support for people in their own homes, to achieve greater independence through valued support.
CORE was established in 2021 through a grant from the Knowsley Foundation allowing us to implement this innovative project across the borough.
CORE is in place to offer companionship to enable those older people who need a little extra support. The project aims to address loneliness and social isolation. The project is now funded through the National Lottery Community Fund, allowing Better Lives to continue to support older people.
CORE provides dedicated one-to-one Supporters to build relationships with people, helping them to regain confidence, attend social activities, or spend quality time with them in their homes. Each partnership will be individually tailored to the needs of the person, always embodying options, respect and excellence – the key tenets of all of our delivery.
The services within this project are free at the point of use to the people who need it.
The CORE project is specifically aimed at people who are less able to attend community activities and is fully funded by the National Lottery Community Fund until February 2026.
